March Meeting

E-mail Print

In case you missed it, here are the minutes from Wednesday's meeting.

  • We discussed the VA's new advertising campaign. One thing that stuck is that it's not really awareness of the GI Bill that's causing problems; it's the hangups that the paperwork has had at the VA that has been causing much of the issues.
  • Considering a speaker or movie event during the last week of April. More information to come.
  • On March 10, we're going to be putting together an Easter care package for some of our UI Soldiers currently deployed to Iraq.
  • We will participate in RiverFest this year. More information to come, but we will probably be participating on April 24.
  • On March 26, we're going to head out to the Wildwood Saloon on March 26th for some ribs and to check out the mechanical bull.
  • I'm going to start migrating much of this site's functionality to the University of Iowa's new student organization management system, Orgsync. More information to come.
  • Other events coming up include: University of Iowa Nearly Naked Mile Run on March 6 and the SVA Regional Conference in Flint, MI in May.
  • If you're interested in learning how to golf, the GIVE program will be offering lessons again this year. The lessons start on March 28; let us know if you want some more information on this as a couple of folks here have gone through it.

As a counselor he would like to look at the positive aspects of deployment to change the mentality of people deploying. If you have anything you'd like to share, email me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and I can send you the survey.

- Dan is also working on setting up a fly fishing outing for Veterans in the area, which got us thinking about other activities we can do as a group outside the immediate Iowa City area. If you have any ideas, let us know!

- A few Veterans will be going on a bar crawl December 4th, and we're going bowling later this month. More information to come.
